St. Paul, MN – The YMCA, a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, will host a nonpartisan, COVID-safe voter activation celebration in the parking lot of Estes Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services from 3-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28.
The voting activation celebration supported through a partnership between the YMCA Center for Youth Voice and When We All Vote, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization created in 2018, provides a safe space for community members and voters to stop by before or after voting for information and support. Early voting is available at the North Early Vote Center located just a few blocks away at the Urban League Twin Cities. The celebration is free and open to anyone. Food will be provided and PPE kits with a mask and hand sanitizer will be distributed.
The YMCA Center for Youth Voice supports young people in developing the knowledge, skills, values and motivation to participate in civic life. When We All Vote is focused on increasing participation in every election and closing the race and age voting gap by harnessing grassroots energy to change the culture around voting. Studies show that hosting community-driven early voting celebrations can boost voter turnout by nearly 4 percent.
“Voting is one of the key freedoms of American life. Many people in countries around the world do not have the same freedom, and not too long ago, neither did many Americans,” said Amy Anderson, executive director for the YMCA Center for Youth Voice. “No matter what you believe or whom you support, it’s important for us to recognize this opportunity, help educate about voting and celebrate those who make the effort to participate in shaping the future.”
